KAWAGOE

. . . . when there were no clocks in Kawagoe the Bell rang 4 times everyday. It was known

as 'Toki no Kane'- the bell of time. Everyday the bell rang at 6am, noon, 3pm & 6pm, giving

the people of Kawagoe a sense of what of day it was.

Even today the bell rings 4 times a day, preserving their sacred history and culture
